First Listen: Marva King is "Superbubblicious"

First Listen: Marva King is "Superbubblicious"

(June 18, 2018) If you have attained a certain age, you might remember when the gum Bubblicious came out. Well, you might not, but I do. Bubblicious was this extreme bubble gum that made really big bubbles. But it was the flavor that made Bubblicious more distinct than the Bazooka that we had been chewing. But what really made that gum pop was the flavor that had these really strong contrast between sweet and tart.

First Listen: Oscar Davis knows that "Love Always Wins"

(June 18, 2018) Oscar Davis grew up in the Marcy Project Housing in Brooklyn, New York, dreaming of being a singer. And it all began in church. “I wanted to sing for the Lord, I still do. Once I got my first round of applause, all I could think of was singing in front of people.

As a teen he sang and the Apollo Theater, and then he quit school to become a professional, singing around NYC. He later moved to Europe to join the group Hotline (which later scored hits renamed as Silver Convention). He later sang backup for a who’s who of soul performers.

Lauryn Hill announces 20th anniversary tour for "Miseducation"

Los Angeles, CA (June 18, 2018) – Multiple GRAMMY® Award winner Ms. Lauryn Hill has announced special guests joining the North American leg of her highly-anticipated The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill World Tour 2018.  Produced by Live Nation, and kicking off July 5, the outing will feature varied support on each date.

First Look: Jade Novah is “All Blue”

June 17, 2018 – We’ve been unabashed fans of the singer, songwriter and comedienne Jade Novah since the release in 2016 of her viral YouTube video “Keyonce Presents Slay Bells” and are eagerly awaiting her debut full-length album, All Blue, set for release on July 13.

First Look: Tamia is "Smokin" with new video

Six-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Tamia is readying her summer album release Passion Like Fire, and if the first single, the brand new  “Leave It Smokin’,” is any indication, it will be an album to watch out for.

Robb Patryk's "Best of 2018 (so far)" Playlist out

June 16, 2018 — Usually, in December of each year, I look back over my articles for SoulTracks, my Twitter musings on new music, and the playlists of others whose tastes I respect to compile my “Best of the Year” selections for use in SoulTracks’ year-end features and playlists. This year I’ve made an effort to note my favorites along the way, and now that we’ve reached nearly the half-year point, I thought I would share them with SoulTrackers who may be jonesing for a new playlist.

First Listen: Chaka Khan is back with "Sugar"

(June 15, 2018) We never hesitate to jump for joy when we hear something new from the legendary Chaka Khan. It has been a decade since she last graced us with the album, Funk This, and she has been rumored to be releasing new music constantly over the past few years.

Well today, the divine Ms. K released a brand new single that is the preface to an album coming later this year. “Like Sugar” is a funky, beat-filled number that has Chaka moving through her upper register and working it beautifully.

First Listen: CHANGE is back after 33 years with new single

(June 15, 2018) It has been a loooooong time since we heard new music from the classic soul and dance group Change. We first heard the Italian/American blended group on the album The Glow of Love nearly four decades ago, and many of us were hooked. With Luther Vandross helping on vocals and great grooves throughout, they won over fans all over the world.

Now, 33 years after their last album, Change is back with the original producers Davide Romani and Mauro Malavasi, and a new album called Love 4 Love coming in September.

First Listen: Nile Rodgers and CHIC tease for new album with live song

(June 15, 2018) Nile Rodgers and his collective, CHIC, dominated the charts in the late 70s and early 80s with their monster dance jams like "Le Freak" and "Good Times," and their good time, songs of abundance have found a new audience a generation later. And Rodgers has personally had a resurgence, becoming as sought after as ever by other artists trying to capture a groove.
